In spite of that, we were so well received that we were re-boked on the spot for THREE future shows, with the promise that we will be the first group she calls to fill in if anyone else has to cancel.
We call that an unqualified success!
With some creative adaptation ( and the help of some symptom suppressing cough syrup) we managed to present our show at the Marin JCC yesterday as a duo. Ricki was still too under the weather to perform.

A new facility for us, Merrill Gardens in Sonoma, has just booked us for a pair of hour long shows, one in September and one in November.
They are part of a chain of Senior communities in nine states in the west and south. Hopefully we'll be getting additional bookings at their Rohnert Park location, which will make Ricki happy, since she lives just around the corner! Judy was a big hit at a private party where she had been invited to sing two of her Spanish numbers as part of the program introducing a culinary tour of Spain being co-ordinated by a well known Napa restauranteur.
Mardi and Judy at the JazzCampWest farewell BBQ Judy and Mardi have just returned inspired from an intensely rewarding week of classes and performances at Jazz Camp West. Judy focused on vocal improvisation with the amazing artist Rhiannon, while Mardi worked on vocal technique and jazz stylings with Kate McGarry. We both learned a lot from our class "One Song, Ten Ways" led by the amazing Australian scat singer Anita Wardell. Judy also loved her class with the masterful Maria Marquez, on Interpretation of Latin Classics and was thrilled when Maria complimented her on how much she has grown as a performer since they first worked together at The Jazz School several years ago. She also really enjoyed her improvisational dance class. Mardi was selected to be part of the Advanced Vocal Ensemble, led by Molly Holm, which sang a four part harmony version of Joe Henderson's "Black Narcissus"at the final concert on Saturday afternoon. Judy won the open mic lottery on the first day of camp and was the opening act for the first open mic of the week., singing "Waiter, Please Make mine Blues with a band anchored by one of the guitar faculty. Mardi got lucky a few days later and got an open mic slot too! She sang a version of "You and the Night and the Music" set to a rhumba beat. We will each have professionally recorded video of our performances with our full bands which we may want to use on our website. |
