We returned to Merrill Gardens this afternoon for the first of our quarterly shows there this year. We felt really good about the show as a whole, From the order of the set list, to the smoothness of the patter, to our increasingly co-ordinated bits of choreograph, we seem to get more polished with each performance. Rehearsal pays big dividends, but there's also nothing like performance to solidify things. As our opener, we introduced our newest number, "Sentimental Journey" which we do to a big band backing track. Isn't it amazing how we can get all of those great musicians into that little PA system!
Friday afternoon shows at Merrill Gardens are fun because the residents hang out on couches or gather around tables and have drinks while we sing.
At our first show a few months ago, there was a lot of conversation while we were singing, so it felt more like a gig in a bar or restaurant. This time everyone seemed really attentive and engaged with our performance.
Many people were mouthing the lyrics of our songs, and of course almost everyone clapped and sang along on our finale, "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy".
Their activity director( pictured above) was pleased, and has booked us to return every third month thru 2013.
